Who killed MJ-Conspiracy Theories
Michael Jackson Conspiracy Theories
Introduction
Celebrities appear to be dying more often in the United States (U.S) nowadays than in earlier years. According to research in 2016, 95 stars passed away, compared to an average of 59 each year from 2010 through 2015 (Slotnik). Few celebrity deaths have been officially shrouded in mystery, although thousands have startled and saddened millions over the years. At 50 years, Michael Jackson, one of the most popular performers in history, tragically passed unexpectedly June of 2009, at his home in Los Angeles, California, after a lethal mix of prescription medications by his doctor (Shepherd). There are several conspiracy theories about Michael Jackson's terrible death:
1. Did Michael Jackson fake his death?
2. Was Michael Jackson murdered?
3. Did Michael Jackson die of a drug overdose?
While looking at the conspiracy theories surrounding Michael’s Jackson death, there is a likelihood he was murdered. We’ll explore many of the unanswered theories to uncover, if indeed Michael was murdered, experienced an accidental drug overdose,
or if he’s just out hiding in an unknown place.
Who was Michael Jackson
Many of us know him as the “King of Pop,” the famous singer behind hits like “Billie Jean”, “Rock with You”, “Bad”, “Thriller”, and “Human Nature”. Michael Jackson was arguably one of the best musicians in the industry. Fans felt his presence on stage before he could even make a move or sing a tune. He’d moonwalk across the stage with black curls dangling near his face and only one shiny silver glove. Screams from the crowd chanting every lyric would fill the room. Michael had it all; from his voice to his dance moves, being charming was a bonus. His creative abilities to create music and perform seemed to come naturally; “His electrifying performance and movement obviously are a great deal of what you love about Michael” (Usher Raymond). In addition, Michael’s generosity, selflessness, and kindness made him even more of a powerhouse.
Michael was the star, and everyone knew it, including him. Jackson, the seventh child of nine siblings, was born August 29, 1958, to Katherine and Joe Jackson in Gary, Indiana (Beyond the Headlines 11:07). He began to show interest in music at the timid age of five. He and four of his older brothers formed the pop group The Jackson 5 in 1964, managed by his father, Joe Jackson. The group topped the charts and sold over a hundred million records worldwide. The group also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After much success, Michael decided to go solo. In 1979, he released his first solo album titled Off the wall. That album won him his first Grammy award for best vocal performance in 1980. A few years later, Thriller would go on to break many barriers within the music industry. During the music video, he showcased his signature dance move, the moonwalk. Still today, many try to perfect the movement. Michael knew his talent well and was a source of inspiration to many. In an interview, Timberlake stated, “He opened the minds of the world through his music” (Justin Timberlake). His music touched many souls, and even today, those tunes give the same feel-good feeling.
Throughout the years, numerous people who had the pleasure of being in his presence would label him as generous and kind; “He’d ask to visit the homeless and pass out hundred-dollar bills” … “He always made sure we had food, water, or just anything we needed” (Beyond the Headlines 34:50-35:56). Michael also donated millions of dollars to charities. In addition, he created a ranch called Neverland, where children and families could come and enjoy the finer things in life. He wanted to give others what he didn’t have as a child.
Though family, friends, and fans often praised Michael for being so loving, his actions caused many controversial thoughts and accusations (Beyond the Headlines27:00). While revealing he slept in bed with young boys during the documentary series Living with Michael Jackson, some began to label him as a pedophile (Living with Michael Jackson 1:21:20). According to those closest to him, Michael had never given off those types of vibes; “He’s eccentric maybe, but not a pedophile” (Beyond the Headlines 30:34).
Loyal fans still saw him as a charismatic and gentle being. Still, the views from the media eventually began to take a toll on Michael’s life (Beyond the Headlines 29:39). Michael began to have trouble sleeping and decided to hire Dr. Conrad Murray as his physician, which unfortunately led to his untimely death. His death caused much heartbreak to fans, but today Michael Jackson is still remembered as a hero, legend, icon, and one of the greatest artists of all time.
What happened Michael Jackson
While unveiling the truth behind what took the life of Michael Jackson, three different theories surround the suspicious cause of death. First, was he in debt and faked his death? Or, the latter two, was Michael murdered or a victim of an accidental drug overdose?
Let's Take a Look
1
Did Michael Jackson fake his death?
The first conspiracy is Michael had financial troubles and needed a way to avoid his financial responsibilities. By faking his death, he would then be debt free. Michael spent money on many lavish items throughout the years (Beyond 36:15). The pop singer was said to be "plagued by many financial problems" (1). Bodyguards stated: “We were being asked to leave hotels because the credit cards on file were being declined” … It was hard not being paid (1). While faking his death seems like a plausible way to escape his obligations, Michael had found a solution to his financial problems. Before his death, the star was gearing up for his final tour, titled This is it. The show would make him millions, clearing him of his debt (1). Michael would then have no reason to fake his death.
2
Was Michael Jackson murdered?
The second conspiracy is Michael Jackson was murdered. During a Rolling Stone interview, Paris Jackson claimed her father was killed, “He would drop hints about people being out to get him”; "And at some point he was like, 'They're gonna kill me one day"(Brian Hiatt 19-20). Reports also state Lisa Presley reported Michael was targeted for his publishing catalog, which was worth millions of dollars (Brian Hiatt pg.20). Seemingly, Michael was a successful pop star; the accusation that he had been murdered could be likely. But, there's no documentation about Jackson ever making reports of being targeted or in fear for his life. Unfortunately, without proof, the case could be ruled as hearsay.

Did Michael Jackson die of a drug overdose?
Lastly is that an accidental drug overdose could have brought on Jackson's death. On June 25, 2009, paramedics were called to the pop star’s home. The audio revealed Michael was not breathing and needed an ambulance (Beyond 1:40). Moments later, breaking news that the “King of Pop” had died hit all media outlets (Beyond 2:27). Reports started to circulate; Doctor Conrad Murray was the last person to see him alive and that he was responsible for the death of Michael Jackson (Beyond 1:50). Paris also told Rolling Stone she blamed Murray for Michael’s dependency on the drug (Rolling Stone pg.19). Michael struggled with insomnia and hired Doctor Conrad Murray to aid his sleeping. Doctor Murray provided anesthetic drugs like Propofol, eventually leading to his death; “Jackson overdosed on propofol given to him by a doctor” (Newsweek). Michael went into cardiac arrest after receiving the injection.
While searching Michael’s home, detectives found bottles of Propofol, Lorazepam, and other benzodiazepines that had been administered to Michael Jackson (Newsweek). While Murray’s actions may not have been intentional, he was charged and sentenced for the death of Michael Jackson. A Juror stated: “We don't think he even had a motive to do this. We think it was something that he was doing that was careless that got out of hand” (Daily). Conrad expressed Michael Jackson was a victim to himself after administering propofol while also taking Demerol; after examining Michael’s bedroom, evidence proved it would have been impossible for Jackson to administer the drug himself without the help of Doctor Murray (BBC). Therefore, his claims were dismissed.
Currently, Conrad has been released from prison and has filed an appeal to prove his innocence. He’s claiming Michael was a drug addict (Caroline Graham), he continues to tell his side of the story but has not been acquitted of his involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of Michael Jackson (Caroline Graham).
Conclusion
After reviewing the death of Michael Jackson, evidence concluded two of the conspiracy theories were why Jackson lost his life. First, it's believed Michael Jackson was murdered or died from an accidental drug overdose.
Research proved Jackson was murdered; however, jurors decided the incident was accidental. Doctor Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Serving only two years of his manslaughter sentence, he was released in 2013.
Today Conrad continues attempts to appeal his charge; fans, friends, and family continue to remember the superstar that once graced many with his extraordinary talents.
